You can try using windows sysinternals application ProcMon (Process Monitor) to catch the process that is causing the crash/freeze. In most cases kernel/driver memory, memory mapped files, & the system pte are what accounts for most non-process memory, especially if you use vms (task manager will only show vm usage if you're using vanilla hyper-v or wsl/wsa, otherwise it's just invisibly put into driver & system pte). If you want a full picture of what's using up ram other than processes see rammap & process explorer. In Process Explorer (Start as Admin) we can open a search window for the handle via the menu Find/Find Handle or dll or with the shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+F.
